"Hello, AuDy. If you're receiving this, it means that one of a number of protocols has been activated."—Transmission from Orth Godlove

Opening Narration

The flash and fury of gunshots leaving high-pitched ringing noises, muting the rest of the world. We see the length of a Golden War-era revolver, and the camera pivots to the side to reveal Orth Godlove—broad, dark-faced, gray stubble, and an even grayer suit buttonless fit snugly around his old muscle.

As he holds the weapon outwards, smoke drifting from the barrel, the world comes into focus around him. Lights blaring and digital bells and beeps ringing. Electronic Keno machines begging absentee gamblers to come and try their chances. But where tourists might sit, instead are crates. Wooden and metal and plastene and each of them marked clearly: EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPLY.

“Chime!” Orth yells into his comm unit. “Chime, come in!”

But there is no signal. Outside an engine roars.

Episode Description

Stakes are high but tensions are even higher as protesters fill the streets around the Consolidated Counterweight Technocracy. Just what, if anything, do the protests have to do with Orth? Where is Orth and what else can The Chime learn about him while they have the chance?

Things are heating up!

Plot Synopsis

A month has passed since the fiasco at SnowTrak Heavy Industries, and the Chime has been recuperating. Mako and Aria have not been successful unloading the mechs they purchased during their infiltration.

AuDy receives a communication from Orth Godlove. Despite it being mid-afternoon, the sky in Orth’s message is night and it quickly becomes clear that it is a recording.

Orth’s recording explains that his bio-signature has been lost, and he is therefore enlisting the Chime to find him. However, they are not the only group he has contacted, and time is of the essence if they wish to be paid.

The members of the Chime decide to start their investigation at Orth’s office at the Counterweight Consolidated Technocracy in the central dome. As they pass through the streets, they see protestors with signs railing against the current food rationing on Counterweight. The crowd is a mix not just of Counterweight natives, but also members of OriCon, the Diaspora, and the Apostolosian Empire.
